Vasil was born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was first exposed to the wonders of chemistry in high school, when he won two bronze medals in the International Chemistry Olympiad. He then moved on to Stanford University for his undergraduate studies, where he conducted research in the laboratory of Prof. Noah Burns on the total synthesis of halogenated natural products. His fascination with complex organic molecules led him to move across the Bay in order to pursue his graduate studies at UC Berkeley. Outside of lab, Vasil enjoys reading, hiking, and drinking beer with friends. He predicts that Stanford’s dominance of Cal in football is coming to an end soon.
