Sven studied chemistry at the Georg-August University Göttingen in Germany. For his Bachelor thesis he joined Prof. Lutz Ackermann's group, where he worked on cobalt-catalyzed C-H bond functionalization. In the summer of 2014, he conducted research at the University of Glasgow (UK), where he joined Prof. J. Stephen Clark's group. His project focused on the synthesis of cyclopropyl-substituted furans by Brønsted acid promoted cascade reactions. After his Master thesis in the Ackermann lab, where he was working on manganese-catalyzed C-H bond functionalization reactions, Sven decided to join the Sarpong group to gain some research experience in the field of natural product synthesis. This research stay is kindly supported by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des dt. Volkes).
