Shota was born in Okayama and brought up in Hyogo, Japan. He started studying chemistry at Kyoto University in 2006. In 2015, Shota received his Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Murakami at the same university, where he studied transition metal-catalyzed transformations based on carbon–carbon bond cleavage. During the course of his Ph.D., Shota had the chance to work in the Sarpong group as a visiting student. Returning to the group in August of 2015, Shota is now a post-doctoral scholar, enjoying his life in the Bay Area.
