Manuel grew up in Kirchheim, a city close to Stuttgart (Germany) right in the heart of Swabia. His parents could already smell, hear and sometimes feel his interest in chemistry while he was performing experiments in the basement. Starting in 2004 he pursued his undergraduate (University of Stuttgart) and graduate (University of Stuttgart and KTH Stockholm, Sweden) studies in chemistry, joining the Peters group in 2009. After obtaining his diploma thesis, Manuel continued his work on stereoselective Michael additions of azlactones in the same group to obtain his Ph.D. in September 2013. Since October 2013 Manuel is a postdoctoral fellow of the DAAD in the Sarpong group working on the enantioselective total synthesis of diterpenoid alkaloids.
