David was born and raised in the countryside of a little town called Compton located in the eastern townships in Québec, Canada. He obtained his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Sherbrooke at which time he also gained experience in medicinal chemistry by doing internships at Merck Frosst, MethylGene and Amgen. He then moved to Ottawa, Ontario, to pursue his doctoral studies at the University of Ottawa, in the group of the late Prof. Keith Fagnou and in the group of Prof. Louis Barriault. He worked on both C-H bond functionalization reactions and the synthesis of natural products. After obtaining his Ph.D. in 2012, he moved to Berkeley and started his postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley with Prof. Richmond Sarpong. David's research focuses on the enantioselective synthesis of diterpenoid alkaloids.
