POLICY FOR ISSUING KEYS
FOR SHORT-TERM USE
(Contractors, Short-term Visitors)
ISSUANCE OF KEYS AND IDENTIFICATION
CARDS
The following responsibilities
are assumed by any person to whom a College of Chemistry key or ID card
has been issued:
1. Keys are not to
be labeled with the room/building which they unlock. Keys are coded
in such a way that should a key be lost, the finder will not know
what it will open.
2. Keys or I.D. cards
are not to be given to any one other than the individual to whom
the key was issued.
3. It is unlawful to
duplicate any University key. (Per the Campus "Access Control Policy,
November 1, 1991 Revision": "Any person who knowingly makes, duplicates,
causes to be duplicated, or uses or attempts to make, duplicate,
cause to be duplicated, used, or has in his possession any key to
a building or other area owned, operated, or controlled by the State
of California...or any state agency... without authorization from
the person in charge of such building or area or his designated
representative, and with knowledge of the lack of such authorization
is guilty of a misdemeanor." California Penal Code Section 469)
4. Should any key or
I.D. card be lost, the loss must be immediately reported to the
College administration. Failure to do so may result in a charge
for any required rekeying of College facilities.
5. Keys are to be returned
to the College immediately upon leaving the College or terminating
the relationship for which the key was issued.
While on this site, you must
remain in the area(s) for which you have received authorization. Under
no circumstances are you to go into any laboratory or other occupied
area on this site without authorization from the area occupant or the
College administration located in 410 Latimer (2-5231).

EMERGENCY
RESPONSE
An emergency alert
is initiated by sounding a steady bell, siren, horn, or buzzer. Upon
such an emergency alert, follow posted directions and evacuate the building
as soon as possible.
For any emergency that involves
fire or personal injury, the Campus Emergency Response
Plan must be activated. The Emergency Response Plan should also be activated
in cases where damage to facilities has occurred or is in imminent danger
of occurring.
The Campus Emergency Response
Plan is activated by pulling the nearest fire alarm (in case of fire)
or calling the Campus police at 9-911 from any Campus phone. The Emergency
Response Plan can also be activated by dialing 911 from any pay phone
(coins are not required). External pay phones are located immediately
outside Latimer Hall on the north side of the building at the Plaza
(first floor) level.
