UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY

POLICY
ON THE ISSUANCE OF KEYS AND CARDS
Failure to adhere to
the College of Chemistry policy on keys and charge cards, as outlined
below, will result in relinquishment of keys:
1. Keys are not to be labeled
with the room/building which they unlock. Keys are coded in such
a way that should a key be lost, the finder will not know what it
will open.
2. Keys or College cards
are not to be used by anyone other than the individual to whom they
were issued.
3. It is unlawful to duplicate
any University key. (Per the Campus "Access Control Policy, November
1, 1991 Revision": "Any person who knowingly makes, duplicates,
causes to be duplicated, or uses or attempts to make, duplicate,
cause to be duplicated, used, or has in his possession any key to
a building or other area owned, operated, or controlled by the State
of California...or any state agency... without authorization from
the person in charge of such building or area or [his/her] designated
representative, and with knowledge of the lack of such authorization
is guilty of a misdemeanor." California Penal Code Section 469)
4. Should any key or College
card be lost, the loss must be immediately reported to the College
Building Manager or her representative in 410 Latimer, 2-5232. Failure
to do so may result in a charge for any required rekeying of College
facilities. Lost keys require filing a police report with UCPD,
1 Sproul, 2-6760. The case # must be presented for key replacement.
5. Keys and I.D. cards are
to be returned to the College prior to leaving the College or terminating
the relationship for which the key and/or card was issued.
College Charge Cards:
College of Chemistry charge cards
are issued to permit use of College facilities such as copying machines,
storerooms, and liquid nitrogen dispensers and/or off-hours Chemistry
Library access.
The College cards may be obtained
from Room 410 Latimer, Ext. 2-5232. Applications for I.D. cards may
be obtained from most administrative assistants or from 410 Latimer.
All applications must be authorized (signed) by a research director
or staff supervisor in order to receive keys or an I.D. A $5.00 refundable
deposit is charged to undergraduates and individuals from outside departments.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE
For any emergency, the Campus Emergency
Response Plan must be activated by pulling the nearest fire alarm (in
case of fire) or calling the Campus police at 911 from any Campus
phone (642-3333 from a cell phone). For more detailed information on

Response Plan can also be activated by dialing 911 from any pay
phone (coins are not required). External pay phones are located immediately
outside Latimer Hall on the north side of the building, Plaza (first
floor) level.
An emergency alert is signaled by
a steady bell, siren, horn, or buzzer. Upon such an emergency alert,
follow posted directions and evacuate the building as soon as possible.
