Navigating the Berkeley Area and in particular the campus area can
be difficult. If the directions listed here are unclear of if you
need further directions, please feel free to contact us by phone,
510-642-2148. Also, be aware that ongoing seismic retrofitting
construction is occasionally closing walkways and stairwells.
Parking is very limited on the UC-Berkeley campus -- it is better to take BART to the downtown Berkeley station if possible. However, you can request a parking permit to park on campus by emailing the research administrator, Rita Tidwell, ritat@berkeley.edu, stating the date and time you will arrive, your host, and purpose of visit. She can put your name on the East Gate list authorizing a permit for you. However, you will be charged $12 for this permit and it is essentially a "hunting permit" -- no guarantee of a space on campus. It will allow you to park in off-campus lots. One such lot that does not usually fill up is behind the Foothill Student Housing and is reached by returning to intersection of Gayley and Hearst/Cyclotron Road, turning right onto Cyclotron Road, and right again behind the Student Housing buildings. There is a path that leads directly from that lot to the Chemistry buildings. It is approximately a ten minute walk to Hildebrand Hall. Please see the campus map to locate this lot. Please note that Hildebrand Hall is on the east end of campus (the side closest to LBL and furthest from Berkeley BART). To get to Paul's office: Start from breezeway below Hildebrand (south side), then walk towards the double staircase. Enter the set of double doors half-way through the breezeway on your left. Take the elevator down to D level. Paul's office is by the elevator doors. To get to the labs: Start from breezeway below Hildebrand (south side), then walk towards the double staircase. Enter the set of double doors half-way through the breezeway on your right. Go all the way down the hall and take the stairs on your left going down, just past the freight elevator and before the loading dock. Coming out of the stairwell, make a right. Most of this hallway (D86-D79) are our labs, with student/post-doc offices located in D84 and D81. The group seminar room is D80. More visitors information
(accomodations, etc) is available from LBL.
