Group Safety Message |

A message from Paul Alivisatos: Welcome to the Alivisatos group labs. Much of the success of our group comes from the fact that we have a very open, collaborative research environment with a wide range of synthetic, analytical, and specialized measurement tools available. This gives the group flexibility to respond to the most exciting scientific and technical opportunities as they arise. I hope that during your stay here, you will personally experience the joy of discovery and great success in your research. I also ask that you join in with the spirit of the group and that you generously help others in our community. Before you start any work in the group, I want you to know that safety is the first priority in our group. Pay careful attention to the safety training requirements, and remember to always stop and carefully consider the possibility of any hazards you might encounter in the course of an experiment you are planning to perform. If you are working in an unfamiliar context, for instance if your are new to the wet lab or to lasers, please go beyond the training courses to seek additional help from others in the group who are more experienced. Please in turn help those around you to be safe and successful in their work. Another request: Please help maintain the labs clean and well functioning. You will be assigned a group duty, such as maintenance of a particular instrument, chemical inventory, etc. I personally ask that you take this community service seriously, and that you also follow all the instructions and requirements established for each of the group instruments. Our group can achieve at its full potential only if each member makes an extra effort to keep the labs in great shape.
