NMR
SPECTROSCOPY FACILITY
Overview
The UC
Berkeley
The
Facility serves mostly undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers in
the Chemistry and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Departments. The
research groups generally assign one or more group operator(s) the
responsibility of disseminating Facility information (newsletter, notices,
application notes, etc.) to other members of the group. G.O.'s also assist
group members with instrument operation as needed. After appropriate training,
users conduct their own NMR experiments. The NMR instruments are accessible to
trained users 24 hours per day, year-round.
The nuclei
of interest to most users are 1H and 13C, followed by 31P,
2H and 19F. A significant number of users study other
nuclei as well; those include 29Si, 11B, 17O, 119Sn,
195Pt and 51V. The NMR experiments conducted by the users
range from relatively simple one-dimensional (1D) direct-observe experiments
(for 1H, 13C, 31P and 19F) to more
elaborate two-dimensional (2D) experiments such as COSY, NOESY, HMQC/HSQC and
HMBC, as well as diffusion and dynamics NMR experiments.
