Issues:

Survey Results

• Rent prices about the same (1st and 2nd years pay a bit more than others)
• Stipends from other schools: list made (Rocio starts stalking to other grad coordinators in Dec/Jan about what they will offer for the next year)
• Students would like smaller stipend increases every year instead of bigger increases less often

Grad student life fund

• people can donate now
• can't access money yet - no fund number issued yet
• may be a while before we can get reimbursed
• The college will be getting a budget director soon
• Will will ask Mindy about donors and if we can get their info to send a thank you
• Publizing the fund: Mindy says we can contact recent alumni after thanksgiving (the college makes their push before thanksgiving)
  • We should mention the college campaign also
• Mindy is willing to give us information on recent ChemE alumni
• Dorothy can give us info too
• In the spring each department chair sends letter to request donations - Jeff is willing to send a joint letter with GSAC
  • He wants us to have a list of priorities
• Rocio will be keeper/contact of the fund - wants it to be easy for reimbursement or PO's

The grad student handbook - 09/10 edit

• will be online soon
• pre-lims have changed
• quals have changed: committee chair must sign off on the manuscript (10 pages) before oral exam can take place
  • oral exam: no more than 25 power point slides should be prepared
• course work requirements have changed: effective for everyone, not just incoming students
• New fellowship section
