Hardware - IR and RF system used in 1 Pimentel Hall (GPH)

• Position laptop for operation and data entry before class begins. Typically in a stage right position (BB-1).
• Plug in laptop power supply, PRS serial (DB-9) cable, and VGA cable.
  Computers with USB, but no DB-9 port will need an adapter and supporting software.
• Plug in PRS IR receiver (RF server in GPH) power supply and PRS serial cable.
• Connect laptop to BB-1 VGA-IN with cable.
• Power up laptop. In coordination with the media booth, toggle video as needed (Fn-CRT/LCD), confirming that the PRS program can be projected.
• If the camcorder is to be used, install at BB-3 (usually).

Software - Spreadsheet Log Files - Regular Sessions

• Open PRS data folder/directory - shortcut is on desktop.
• Open (or Create) Excel csv log file dated for first lecture of current week (typically Monday).
  ex. ChemQuizLog20040906_2 (ChemQuizLogYYYYMMDD_[section#].csv)
• Ensure that date (column A) and question number (column B) columns are prepared for data entry.
• As each ChemQuiz is introduced, enter descriptive identity of question in column C -- ex. "22.4"
• When the answer is revealed to the class, enter it in column D, in all rows for that question. Do not enter the answer until the class has been told.
• When a ChemQuiz has multiple correct answers, the entry will be as: "1,3" or "1,2,3" etc. - comma separated, no extra spaces.
• After each question, SAVE the Excel CSV log file - answer YES to the "To keep this format..." query.

Software - PRS Data Files - Regular Sessions

• Run PRS program - shortcut is on desktop or in shortcuts folder.
• Press Classes button, select appropriate Class Name. typically Chem1AFL2004_2
• Press Sessions button, press New Session button, -- enter filename according to naming requirements. More Info
  ex. ChemQuiz20040906_2 (ChemQuizYYYYMMDD_[section#].csv)
• While using PRS, do not normally close using the "X" button at the upper right corner of the window. To close Graph, use the "CLOSE" button only.
• Check before and after each question that the PRS question sequence number has incremented after closing the graph, and is correct for the next question. Be certain that the PRS question number is correct, that there are none missing (skipped).
• Press End Session when the class is over, and File-Exit the application.

Special or MidTerm Sessions - Data and Log Filenames

• Proceed as above -- ADDITIONALLY --
  • Change Session-Choices and Session-Chances as needed. (typically 5 Choices, 3 Chances) More Info
  • Log: Assign a special filename. date to be used, today or Monday - TBD
    ex. ChemQuizLogMT320040906_2 (ChemQuizLog[descr.]YYYYMMDD_[section#].csv)
  • Data: Open a special SESSION for separate data file.
    ex. ChemQuizMT320040906_2 (ChemQuiz[descr.]YYYYMMDD_[section#].csv)

Data backup and upload.

• Daily - backup data file (in its directory/folder) and log file to:
  USB drive
  Lecture secondary laptop, Latitude D505
  Backup laptop, Inspiron 7500
  ucbdemolab Briefcase
• Weekly
  • Rename all "session" files to match their parent directory/folder names. More Info
  • Upload week's data and log files to "Digital Chemistry - upload tool" website.
  • Create Log files for the following week.
