PRS Operator Checklist

I. SETTING UP

Laptop computer - Boot in advance with (* optional) wireless

1) obtain and place on proper stage nearest lecture hall (* for best Airbears reception).
2) plug power in to stage:

a) laptop to ac adapter
b) prs server to ac adapter

2) plug in prs server serial cable to laptop

3) turn on computer

4) (*) log in to AirBears (if you use your own password, be sure to log out when you leave)

PRS software - run program

1) start prs - PRS icon on desktop or in shortcuts desktop folder
2) File-OpenSettingFile and select current settings file, ex. chem1bspring2004
3) confirm settings are correct: (3 choices, 2 chances, auto-graph...)
4) start "new session" and name file:

a) regular data files -- ChemQuizYYYYMMDD_S -- ex. ChemQuiz20040831_2
b) regular log files -- ChemQuizLogYYYYMMDD_S -- ex. ChemQuizLog20040830_1
c) midterm bonus data file -- ChemQuizMT#YYYYMMDD_S -- ex. ChemQuizMT320040920_1 (MT # 3 for section 1)
d) midterm bonus log file -- ChemQuizLogMT2YYYYMMDD_S -- ex. ChemQuizLogMT120040912_3 (MT #1 for section 3)

5) Connect VGA cable from BB-n box to PRS laptop VGA out.
6) ***important***: Toggle over to external monitor (Fn+CRT/LCD) and call projection booth to make sure they are receiving the PRS video, and that it can be projected correctly. Have them show a sample screen if possible.
7) If PRS isn’t showing up correctly projector screen, turn tiny blue nob on side of stage near VGA inputs (BB-n box) until it does.

8) Open PRS Log template with Excel and Save As (CSV) with current name: Log name has date of Monday - Wednesday data is contained in Monday log.
9) Sign in to ucb demolab briefcase to ready laptop for upload at end of class

II. IMPLEMENTING PRS

PRS

1) To receive data from receivers click start
2) To stop and graph click stop

3) !!!!! Important!!!!!- click “close” to close graphing window. Do not click on “x”. Otherwise, PRS will not increment question #.

Log file

1) Enter Quiz Number (as it appears on chalkboard/projector) ex. 9.1
****important****: END SESSION WHEN CLASS IS FINISHED!!!!

III. UPLOADING DATA TO BRIEFCASE

Log on to Yahoo Briefcase

1) go to http://briefcase.yahoo.com

2) type in user name and password: ……

3) click on folders-à(desired folder)

4) click on “raw data”

5) click on “add file”

6) click on “browse” and select appropriate file(s) to upload: log file and PRS data file

7) click on “upload”

8) Log out of Yahoo Briefcase
