Citric Acid and Sodium Bicarbonate Endothermic Reaction

For better results, cool all starting materials in ice.
  1. Measure out 19.2 grams Citric Acid Anhydrous into one 40mL beaker.
  2. Measure out 25.2 grams Sodium Bicarbonate into a second 40mL beaker.
  3. Measure out 30mL of cold H2O into a third 40mL beaker.
  4. Place thermometer probe in 400mL beaker.
  5. Combine Citric Acid Anhydrous, Sodium Bicarbonate, and H2O into 400mL beaker.
  6. Stir contents frequently. Watch temperature change.

Reaction Temperature reaches -4.5C in approximately four minutes.
