Research: Single-Site Catalysis
My research is primarily focused on developing well characterized catalysts with single isolated active sites. Primarily, I have focused on the reaction of methanol to formaldehyde on V/Ti/SiO2; and I use in-situ Raman, IR, EXAFS, XANES, UV-vis, BET, and XRD to characterize my catalyst and support. Use of these tools allows me to determine how the structure of the catalyst changes during a reaction and develop a reaction mechanism for my catalyst. Eventually, studies in single-site catalysis will create a method for predicting reaction products and, thereby, a systematic approach toward catalyst development.
