Annual Retreat

A strong component of this program is to learn not only from individual research groups, but from each other. To meet this goal, the training grant is pleased to initiate an annual retreat for trainees all trainees to socialize and present their work. This full day retreat in the fall involves formal, long research talks from each trainee, a roundtable on the current research and training progress, a review of resources necessary for the next year's research, and a business meeting of the program's faculty in which the program's success and future are reviewed.
The highlight of the retreat is the trainee research talks, and faculty offer advice and suggestions on the direction of research. Furthermore, the retreat provides a formal forum for discussion of the training program with the trainees and all training faculty. Recent topics have included the internship program, the development of chemical biology in the Chemistry Department, and the nationwide trend to incorporation of biology into the Chemical Engineering curriculum. This retreat-which provides a valuable forum for feedback from other trainees and from faculty on research goals, enables the program director to carefully monitor progress, and has even sparked several new collaborations-has been enjoyable, well attended, and highly successful.

Our third annual retreat will be held on November 24, 2008. Agenda to follow shortly, please check back here for details.
